March 28 Tournament Results

The March 2010 monthly tournament at Genesis Paintball Sports was won by the team of Joshua Algarin and
David Cloyd
.

The two played extremely well individually and as a team, losing only one point during the course of the tournament. They were aggressive throughout, with their flag in hand for many of the points.

The truly impressive part of this tournament was the breadth of skill shown by each team. Deme and Bill Nanos (an excellent father/son team) played amazing matches from their first step on the field; Deme was shooting over-the-top well, winning one point in 8 seconds with two shots. They made it to the finals from the 1-loss branch of the tree, which is not the easiest route into the finals. Only top-notch play could make that happen in this group of teams.

Dustin Mashburn and Greg Fulham were amazing to watch. Their speed moving up the field resulted in more than one spectator's, "Wow!" They set the current record for the fastest point played in the 2/10 format: just over 4 seconds - the time that it took Dustin to run the length of the field, grabbing the flag in route.

The two fastest points every played in the 2/10 format happened during this tournament: one by flag run and one by elimination. These two times beat the previous two fastest points, both held by the team of Daniel Jones and Jacob Lee, by ten seconds each.

The referees were excellent in the opinion of all involved in the tournament. They were on top of every call and the flow of each point and match was aided greatly by their super performance. Also interesting was that they said watching the play was a rush, which is normally what players say about playing.

As a side note, this tournament spanned two weekends. All matches except the finals were completed before heavy rain began on the afternoon of March 28. At Bill Nanos' suggestion and everyone's quick agreement, the finals were played on the following Saturday morning, April 3. Good sportsmen all! As it should be.
