May 30th Tournament Results

The May 2010 monthly tournament at Genesis Paintball Sports was won by the team of Lee Marshall and
David Cloyd
.

The entire tournament, from first to last point, was excellent. Every team in this tournament played strong. Players, spectators and refs were all impressed by the play with one ref stating, "I have more fun watching this (2/10 format) than anything else that I ref. Really cool!"

Approximatedly 35% of the points (games) in the tournament had the flag in play and about half of those were won with flag runs. There were no record-time points played, but there was one only-two-shots point that came close to also being a record time.

Notable performances: Matt Hartford and Matt Bartz (unofficially called "Matt squared") were bold in every point.

Cody Wilson and Julian Lupo were stunningly fast and smooth. If you blinked, they were on you. They changed up their game, but almost always took the mid-field area from the start of each point - and then continued to move fast and sharp.

Ryan Harris and Joey Stokes were a wild-card surprise of the tournament, taking second place and earning it well. They came in as first-timers, got the feel of the format quickly and began taking it to everyone they played. They were aggressive, adapted quickly to the strategies they saw and their counter-strategies came very close to pulling off a tournament win in their first appearance. Excellent to watch and, from other players viewpoints, great to play against.

Marshall/Cloyd seemed to get their edge with Lee Marshall's keen observations and the resulting effective strategies, which made them a force. They both have old-school backgrounds that are very similar and that also seemed to help them to work together. The finals with Harris/Stokes put all of that to quite a test: they lost the first set (2-3), won the second (3-2) and put to use flexible strategy in the final set (3-1) to win.

The referees were excellent. They moved in and out of the playing area quickly and made accurate calls just as quickly. As usual, there was only honest and fair play throughout the tournament, making life enjoyable for all. The way it should be.
